[Review] We Thought We Knew It All By Michelle Lynn

We Thought We Knew It All

(Invincible #2)
Published: March 31st 2017

Much can happen in ten years. People change. Life occurs; death ensues. Secrets are kept; truth prevails.

A decade has passed since Callie and Jamie exchanged goodbyes. At the time, they didn’t realize it might be their final exchange, and they’d disappear from each other’s lives. But that’s exactly what happened. Now, Callie finds herself at a crossroads. Caught between her current life and the longing for her past, she must decide what is best for her.

Jamie has worked hard to make something of himself — to prove his father wrong. Life as an Army Ranger isn’t easy, but it’s who he is down to his core. When everything starts to crumble, he receives news from home that makes him think about his life. Earlier, he vowed never to set foot in Gulf City again. Now, there's no reason he can’t go home.

Except there is... And her name is California McCoy.

Back at it again! For those who are familiar with Michelle Lynn’s work, you may have noticed how writing 'stories that are tough to tackle yet will definitely blow you away’ may be her forte. And this sequel did not exempt. It’s not a secret that I love the previous book and boy I’m glad that this sequel did not disappoint.

After the tragedy that happened in the first instalment, this book is all about the aftermath and how the characters choose to go on with their lives. Zooming out ten years after We Thought We Were Invincible, We Thought We Knew It All was the perfect conclusion to this story. It was less cramped in the conflicts department compared to its previous book, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I was worried at first, after finding out that the time gap was way far, but turns out there’s nothing to worry about at all. Our favourite characters had certainly grown after ten years, but the author had managed to effortlessly slip every missing details in perfect timing, making it seem that 10 years was nothing but a blip.

Great characters, great writing style, great plot, what else can I say? I am shocked to find myself not hating any of the characters in the book after I finished reading it, no matter how annoying they can be. While the first book is more towards “either you love it or you DNF’d it,” this sequel is a dessert to all of us who managed to power through all the conflicts and tragedy in the first book. Although, I’m not saying that this book is lacking it’s own share of conflicts, because trust me, it’s there.

We Thought We Knew It All is about how Callie and Jamie were forced to grow up and somehow break apart in the process and how they found each other back at the end of the day. Overall? 5 perfect stars. You need to begin with the first book before you can pick up this one, so if you haven’t read it yet, I am strongly recommending you this series.

[Review] Shattered Pack By Aileen Erin

Shattered Pack

(Alpha Girl #6)

Meredith Molloney never thought she’d find a mate, let alone someone like Donovan Murry—one of the most powerful Alphas alive. Now that she’s no longer cursed and the evil Luciana Alvarez has been taken care of, she thinks life will finally settle down. Boy, has she never been so wrong.

In the middle of the night, Donovan gets a call telling him that his pack has gone to pieces. The news that his second in command has been found brutally murdered has Donovan packing his bags for Ireland, but the last thing Meredith wants to do is leave Texas. She’s heard about how the Celtic Pack are with outsiders. And Donovan has more than a few exes in the pack that will be less than friendly.

Meredith’s never let a few angry wolves stop her, and she’s not about to start now. She’s faced down much worse the past few months. But when she gets there, she finds that it’s not just a few exes who stand in the way between her and her Full Moon Ceremony with Donovan.

Meredith is thrust in to a deadly game of pack politics, one the fey have happily joined in on. When the dust settles, she knows she’ll either have everything that she wants or lose it all.

I think I’ve been looking forward for Meredith’s story since she was introduced in the first instalment, Becoming Alpha. And when this book finally came out I was beyond stoked!

Shattered Pack focuses on Meredith and her oh-so-powerful and uber-lickable mate, Donovan. Alpha of the Irish pack and one of the Seven. Following the previous fight with the powerful witch Luciana, St. Ailbe was forced to be closed. With no other choice, Meredith had to come home to Colorado while her mate went separate ways to handle matters as one of the Seven (the main council of werewolves or some sort). But when a case of murder happened in Donovan’s pack, he needs to overcome even more stress of returning back to Ireland and solve it. Meredith, being a good mate that she is, follows him back to Ireland, despite all the warnings.

Aileen Erin did a really great job in exceeding my expectations with the plot and (of course) the characters! I mean, let’s just take a moment and swoon over how sweet Donovan is, and how kick ass Meredith is, they’re just perfect with each other. I love the fact that we get to delve into another pack’s (Donovan’s) environment, despite it being a bit of a hassle (you’ll figure it out when you read it, trying to keep it spoiler free here). The writing style was still a two thumbs up, although I felt that it was a tad slow in the beginning.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book! great addition to the series.

[Review] The Game Changer By Megan Ryder

The Game Changer

All-star catcher Dylan Prosser always has his head in the game. Accustomed to keeping opponents from stealing bases, Dylan is completely focused on getting the team to the playoffs no matter what the cost. He definitely doesn’t expect anyone to steal his heart and turn his life upside down–least of all, a stray dog and a beautiful girl.

After the ultimate abandonment by her family, Savannah Monroe channels her savior-complex tendencies into helping animals because they can't hurt her like people can. Life at the animal rescue shelter has always provided the security and personal reward that she needs to be happy while protecting her heart.

But as she works with Sadie, Savannah soon realizes that his dog isn’t the only one who needs saving…

The Game Changer may be great for those who are looking for a sweet sports romance between a pro baseball player and a dog saving enthusiast. I was really intrigued when I found this book and was excited to read it, but unfortunately the book kind of fell short for me in the character’s development. I just can’t seem to connect with the characters despite me being a dog lover myself. And although the plot does have a potential, I felt that the pace was a bit slow (or maybe I’m just used to fast paced novels, who knows).

Overall, it was an ok for me. Not hating it but not loving it either. Would I recommend it? yeah, why not. Despite me not fully loving it, this book seemed like something new adult romance lovers would enjoy.
